Matt Williams

Matt is Principal Trumpet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music.
As well as his work with the RPO, Matt enjoys a rich and varied freelance career, working with many of the UK’s finest symphony, opera & ballet orchestras. With over a decade of experience, he has played with numerous renowned groups such as John Wilson’s Sinfonia of London, LSO, LPO, Philharmonia, Royal Opera House, ENO, CBSO, Hallé, Birmingham Ballet as well as the BBC Symphony, Philharmonic and Welsh orchestras. Matt was also part of the orchestra that performed at the Coronation of King Charles III & Queen Camilla.
As a chamber musician Matt has performed with Septura, London Brass, Onyx Brass, Cory Band and has appeared as a soloist with the BBC Singers. He has toured the world from Europe to Asia and America and had the privilege of working with some of the worlds finest conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Michael Tilson Thomas, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä and Sir Antonio Pappano.
Matt is also a familiar face in London’s West End, regularly performing in hit shows such as Wicked, Matilda, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. His playing can further be heard in numerous TV programs and commercials, including Doctor Who, McDonalds, Volkswagen, Call of Duty, Wicked: The Movie, and more. He has also shared the stage with music icons such as Elton John, Pet Shop Boys, Harry Connick Jr., Brian May, Diana Ross, and Sting, to name just a few.
Matt loves to share his experiences and knowledge about all things brass and has given many a lesson and masterclass, including at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
